Position Overview

Within Harris Williams IT, the Finance Solutions Architect will drive our delivery of competitive advantage in investment banking execution through excellence in financial business operations.

Leveraging extensive depth in platform administration, finance/accounting, and service delivery, the Finance Solutions Architect will own and lead initiatives to reimagine, implement and operate our critical financial technology platforms.

The Solutions Architect is a senior technical lead position that will synthesize a business needs and system functionality into an innovative, executable vision for our financial platform portfolio. This role will be a key individual, ensuring that Harris Williams continues to use our technology as a differentiator in the industry.

Job ProfileCore Responsibilities:


  • Build deep, subject matter expertise of Harris Williams IT financial platforms and their use within the firm
  • Partner closely with the Harris Williams Finance and Accounting teams to develop thorough knowledge of business and financial practices and capture as stakeholder requirements
  • Define the technical vision for financial platforms, system architecture and functionality, yielding strategic and tactical priorities
  • Leverage technical acumen in system architecture, administration, development and integration to create a unified applications ecosystem
  • Define technical roadmaps that iterate feature delivery towards capability sets that enable and delight our users
  • Own and lead the current Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains system in place, including configuration, SQL / Jet solution development, internal and 3pty tool integration, and technical support and issue resolution
  • Institute appropriate architectural, governance and change management principles for owned systems and operations
  • Promote the enterprise platform strategy and progress to stakeholders via regular, effective program updates
  • Apply security best practices around systems, data and processes for appropriate risk mitigation
  • Ensure continuous improvement, quality and availability of data, platforms and applications
  • Drive a product-focused culture, actively researching and benchmarking new tools, best practices, and techniques
  • Catalog, architect and manage data integrations between owned and linked systems

    Job Specific Competencies, Education & Experience:

    • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or relevant field (Masters Degree in related field is a plus)
    • High degree of professionalism and a proactive, curious technical approach
    • Passion for technology and innovation, and a keen focus on ensuring an exceptional customer experience
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and strength in constructing and delivering program updates to a variety of audiences
    • Extensive experience designing and implementing advanced enterprise-class fintech architectures and services (on prem and cloud-based)
    • Experience in process automation, data integration / API layers & scheduled process management
    • Ability to work across matrixed teams to effectively itemize, prioritize and deliver workload
    • 10+ years experience:


      • Technical architecture, development, engineering
      • Leading large enterprise implementation efforts, with a history of proven success
      • MS Windows system implementation and administration
      • MS Great Plains, MS SQL and / or Jet databases

      • 5+ years experience:


        • MS environment sysadmin: 365, Active Directory, SSO / IDM, GPOs
        • Integration & automation: API management, SSRS/SSIS, MS Flow, or similar technologies
        • Enterprise Business Intelligence technologies: MS Power BI, Tableau, Splunk, SiSense or similar BI platforms

          Modeling: Data, Process, Events, Objects Knowledge of and the ability to use tools and techniques for analyzing and documenting logical relationships among data, processes or events.

          Problem Solving Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

          Process Management Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques and ability to understand, monitor, update, or enhance existing business or work processes.

          Project Management Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve project objectives.

          Requirements Analysis Knowledge of methods and techniques to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements; ability to analyze these requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

          Software Product Business Knowledge Knowledge of and experience with the business aspects and operation of a software product; knowledge of the install base, current uses, future plans, and product vision.

          Work Experience

          Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 2+ years of relevant professional experience. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
