Duties The HVAC Teacher is responsible for providing effective
Career and Technical Education Instruction in the assigned trade
area; assist assigned students to complete the required
competencies for that trade area (HVAC); demonstrate effective
classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in
compliance with all aspects of safety management; and to maintain
accurate and current student records for assigned students. Minimum
Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Must have at least two years' full time or 2000 hours
of verifiable experience in the last 5 years in the relevant
field/trade area for a teaching certificate. Knowledge of all
phases of the trade area; ability to supervise adult students in a
classroom/lab environment. License: Must be eligible for a
Journeyman or Master Electrician License or a Technical
Professional License in Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning or
Technical Professional License in the relevant trade area/field
issued by DPOR. Must be eligible for a teaching certificate by the
Department of Education. *Note: If you do not currently hold a
teachers/trade license from the Department of Education (DOE): 1.
You must submit all documentation for your provisional license to
the licensure designee for VADOC during the first 90 days of
employment. 2. Obtaining a provisional license within the 1-year
probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to
continuing employment at the DOC. Additional Considerations
Knowledge and experience in correctional education classroom
management. Ability to facilitate other instructors. Knowledge of
the DOC institutional policies and procedures and policies
governing correctional education. Five years of experience in the
related trade/field. Journeyman or Master Electrician License or a
Technical Professional License in Heating, Ventilation & Air
Conditioning or Technical Professional License in the relevant
trade area/field issued by DPOR. Teaching certificate by the
Department of Education. Must have knowledge of all phases of the
trade area. Ability to supervise adult in-mates in a classroom/lab
environment in a correctional facility. Knowledge and experience in
correctional education classroom management. The ability to
facilitate other Correctional Education instructors; knowledge of
the DOC institutional policies and procedures and policies
