Job Description:

ERM is seeking a motivated Principal Civil Engineer with a focus on site-civil and remedial design and construction for our Richmond, Virginia office, supporting work across North America. In this role, you will work closely with experienced Project Managers, Engineers and Scientists on the planning, design, permitting and implementation of diverse and complex engineering assignments. You will be involved in managing and supporting multi-discipline teams working in the renewable energy, power, chemical, manufacturing and other industrial sectors. Projects will include overseeing the development of construction drawings, technical specifications, contract documents, permit applications and calculations for projects involving earthwork, stormwater management, utilities, soil and sediment remediation technologies, waste management and land disposal facilities, and construction oversight. Staff management, project controls and management support for significant consulting and construction projects, including scheduling, labor resourcing, and cost estimating, will be a component of this position. Diverse and broad-based experiences, both in office and field settings, should be anticipated.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead project teams independently on a global platform in varying settings that demand new and creative solutions.
• Provide technical expertise on capital projects for a variety of clients with complex technical/regulatory issues in the power, technology, manufacturing and other sectors.
• Interact with scientists in the site investigation, risk management, and planning disciplines as integrated teams as well as engineers in design and construction.
• Assume lead roles in a "center-of-excellence" engineering team to formulate creative designs and oversee implementation.
• Provide technical support for field investigations, construction oversight and quality assurance activities as needed for design parameter development, and during construction for oversight and Construction Quality Assurance purposes.
• Direct and review field data collection, calculations, engineering reports, cost estimates, comprehensive schedules, and progress-tracking reports.
• Assist clients in developing strategies and preparing designs for proposed facilities, and prepare project work scopes, schedules and budgets.
• Work with other ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients and establish new client relationships that result in significant net revenue growth.
• Prepare technical proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads.
• Lead, manage performance, hire and retain, inspire and mentor personnel for overall success of the technical team. REQUIREMENTS
  • B.S. / M.S. in Civil Engineering preferred, with a focus on designs involving site-civil, environmental, geotechnical and structural applications.
  • Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license in-place, or eligibility for reciprocity of PE licensure held in another state.
  • 10 or more years of relevant technical experience. Candidates with significantly more experience or high performing candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply as multiple positions are available.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project resourcing and scheduling, AutoCAD-based design, GIS and construction management skill sets.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD/GIS).
  • Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with complex technical knowledge and concepts.
  • Proven business development experience for large programs/contracts and client relationships supported by repeat business, including established contacts.
  • Advanced knowledge of the local regulatory climate, with proven negotiation skills with state and local regulators.
  • Recognized technical expertise by and established reputation in the local marketplace.
  • Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.

  • Ability and willingness to travel.
