Metrology Engineering Technical Leader
ZYGO Corporation is a global leader in the design and manufacture
of advanced optical metrology systems and ultra-precise optical
components and assemblies. Our mission is to enable customer

solutions. ZYGO's metrology products measure absolute position,
displacement, surface shape and texture and film thickness.
Applications for our metrology products are diverse and include
semiconductor manufacturing, precision machining and optical
manufacturing. Our optics business leverages ZYGO's expertise in
optical design and assembly and high-volume manufacturing of
precision optical components and systems for aerospace, defense,
medical and industrial applications.
The Metrology Engineering Technical Leader will provide technical
leadership and tactical direction for the EPO Metrology Engineering
Team. He/she is responsible for continuous improvement in terms of
measurements processes, technical compliance, equipment efficiency
and utilization, calibration, data quality and production
measurement feedback. This position will provide technical guidance
for a dynamic team whose responsibilities encompass early-stage
test concepts for business development, metrology test plans for
new products, procedures and documentation, training, and transfer
to operations.
To be successful in this position, the candidate should have proven
experience with technical leadership and direction for a team of
talented engineers and technicians who specialize in the
measurement and analysis of high precision optical surfaces,
components, and related products. You will also need to have
excellent communication skills in order to routinely update the
leadership and other company executives on activities and
performance.
Basic Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify, plan and manage multiple concurrent metrology engineering
projects while ensuring their success in meeting their respective
objectives and deadlines
Directly contribute to metrology test plans, error budgets,
documentation, and training
Develop and manage a system for monitoring and improving stability
and accuracy of metrology equipment, including but not limited to:
calibration plans, preventative maintenance, cleanliness, proactive
failure mode analysis and repairs
Drive excellence and continuous improvement in extreme precision
optical components metrology methods
Proactively identify single points of failure, and propose and
implement solutions
Develop and define optics testing procedures and analysis and
convert to automated/reproducible process for implementation in
optics production.
Work with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering peers to identify,
plan and implement process improvements using Statistical Process
Controls - Standardize/Document, Measure, Compare, Correct.
Review product requirements with Project Engineering and Operations
to ensure compatibility of testing methods.
Provide work leadership and training to professional staff and
production staff.
Ultimately responsible for accuracy of all data generated by
metrology personnel and equipment

Excellent organizational and technical leadership skills to manage
a team of engineers and technical staff
Proven multitasking skills and the ability to work under extreme
pressure
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

parameters; and customer demands
Demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior in exercising judgment
and discretion in matters of significance
Education and Experience:
B.S., M.S. or PhD in Engineering, Physics or related fields
Ten years of directly related experience, including managing a
metrology team
Strong technical, engineering or development experience
Experience in project management and execution of successful
significant capital projects
Ability to work in a fast, efficient environment with
cross-functional teams
