  • Understanding and support of the purpose of Swift Creek Mill Theatre, Inc., which is:Swift Creek Mill Theatre provides Central and Southside Virginia with professional theatre in a variety of genres, including its Youth Theatre and Educational programs, and preserves its historic building.PRINCIPAL DUTIES: This is a brand-new position for Swift Creek Mill Theatre. As we reopen after 18 months, there is a new focus on developing an Education program for Swift Creek Mill Theatre. We anticipate summer camps, and classes, partnerships with area schools and community groups, and possibly much more. Whoever has this position will have the opportunity to shape the nature of our educational programming and emphasis.Some possible thoughts:1) Classes/Camps: a) Develops curricula, objectives, and activities for Swift Creek Mill Theatre Classes and Camps.b) Teach classes, which allow students to experience live theatre in a non-failure atmosphere.c) Recommend a master calendar of classes and camps to Managing Director within specified deadlines.d) Hire, supervise and evaluate (in conjunction with Swift Creek hiring guidelines and the Managing Director) additional Mill instructors and student assistants.e) Monitor class & camp activities of hired instructors.f) Review annually the classes and camps and make recommendations to the Managing Director as to additional programming, deletions, improvements needed, and successes.2) Outreach: a) Develop and implement an outreach program for youth, with annual goals and objectives.b) Review and promote The Mill scholarship policies.c) Represent The Mill to the public and in the community as required.3) Finance: a) Recommend a departmental budget to the Managing Director by appropriate deadlines.4) Facilities: a) Inform the Managing Director of any needed facility repairs noted during class time or rehearsal time.b) Record space needs for classes and camps in the master scheduling book in the office.5) Production Supporta) Work with the Artistic Director to develop study guides for student matinee performances.b) Work with box office staff to assist in booking and seating student matinee performances.c)6) Other: a) Encourage membership and active involvement in Swift Creek Mill Theatre.b) Serve as primary contact for Mill Education program inquiries and information requests.c) Attend staff meetings and other meetings as requested.d) Perform other duties pertinent to the Mill as assigned by the Managing Director.HOURS: The goal for this position is that it will be a full-time position within a few months. As the job develops it will begin as a part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week. Because of the unique nature of theatre operations, this is not a position for which regular hours can be assignedJob Types: Full-time, Part-timePay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hourBenefits:
