ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - INDIVIDUAL GIVING The Branch Museum of Architecture and Design ("The Branch"), located in beautiful Richmond, Virginia, is dedicated to exploring the impacts of design in everyday life, inspiring individuals and communities to create a more equitable, beautiful, and productive future. The Branch House - the museum's home on Monument Avenue - was designed by John Russel Pope in 1916 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1967. Following significant repairs to the building, the museum recently hired a new executive director and has just completed a new five-year strategic plan.The Branch is seeking an Assistant Director - Individual Giving with development experience in prospect identification and the cultivation of private funds. This is a front-line development professional role, overseeing individual and planned giving. The position is committed to soliciting and stewarding donors and manages a portfolio of prospects capable of making major gifts for annual fund, capital needs, or special projects in support of our mission and new five-year strategic plan. The Assistant Director - Individual Giving will integrate advancement efforts with all museum functions, including exhibition and public programs, marketing, and events. This individual will create and implement annual and other campaigns, as well as donor and prospect events to introduce new donors to the museum. RESPONSIBILITIES Work closely with the Executive Director to develop a comprehensive and robust individual giving program, including but not limited to annual fund, patron-level membership, planned giving, and donor/prospect events. Support the creation and execution of annual and long-term plans that elicit and secure philanthropic donors to fund exhibitions, programs, and new strategic initiatives over a 3-5-years. Manage a portfolio of top donors and prospects and maintain a focused pipeline of solicitations and cultivation activity, with custom strategies for each donor. Ensure high-quality and appropriate stewardship of donors at all gift levels to preserve and increase their giving commitment. Coordinate with Development and Membership Manager to execute all pledges, billings, and acknowledgments. Work closely with the Development and Membership Manager to steward patron-level members and fulfill benefits. Develop and manage campaign-related events and communications, including case statements, naming opportunities, and funding proposals. Working in concert with The Branch team, collaborate on the planning, production, and management of two signature fundraising events annually. Maintain data for major gifts in the museum's Bloomerang CRM; track results and produce board reports as needed. Represent the Museum at fundraising and other events. Oversee special projects and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent combined education and experience; CFRE certification a plus. Minimum three years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, preferably in a cultural organization, with direct interaction with donors. Experience in museums and/or interest in architecture and design a significant plus. Solid knowledge of fundraising principles and strategies that span annual giving, planned giving, and capital and endowment campaigns. Ability to identify new prospects, and through successful cultivation and solicitation strategies, moving them to major gift donors. Ability to meet annual assigned performance metrics for gift officer activity and fundraising results. Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships across a wide variety of individuals, both internally and externally. Strong strategic thinking skills with an ability to use data to make decisions and to translate strategy into action. Excellent written communications skills and experience writing custom proposals. Technology fluent, with ability to work in donor databases and leverage tools for fundraising Experience creating donor events and fundraisers preferred. High energy, poised, personable, humor, and excellent diplomatic skills are essentials. Unquestionable integrity and commitment to professional ethics, and ability to work with a wide range of people. Open-minded and excited by change, because every day is different at The Branch. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to work frequent non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends as needed to accommodate donor and other museum events. Local travel required to meet with donors; must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license. Compensation and Benefits This is an Exempt level, full-time benefited position located on-site in Richmond, VA.
