Associate Director, Digital Scholarship Lab - 502284
SUMMARY:The Associate Director (1) coordinates the development of digital collections and digital scholarship projects and applications and (2) manages all processes involved in the production and organization of spatial data for those projects. In the former role, they oversee and coordinate the work of the Boatwright Library's website design and development staff and work with the Director of the Digital Scholarship Lab. Head of Digital Engagement in selecting and prioritizing documents, and analyzes spatial data; oversees tasks including georeferencing and georectification of maps, particularly for the DSL's historical mapping projects.RESPONSIBILITIES:Unit Administration / Leadership:

• Supervises and coordinates the work of Boatwright Library's Visualization and Web Designer, Web Developer, and Applications and System Administrator, thus providing project management for design, front-end development, and back-end development of digital collections and digital scholarship projects.
• Solicits, identifies, and evaluates potential projects.
• Promotes the unit and its work to the University community and beyond, including active participation in appropriate professional conferences and other venues.
• Assists the Director / Head of the Unit in setting its strategic vision.GIS Administration:
  • Works with geospatial data and metadata from collection to production: Producing, cleaning, normalizing, and otherwise manipulating geospatial data and metadata.
  • Develops procedures and oversees the georeferencing and georectification of maps by students. Works with student interns to efficiently and accurately assist in this and other research involving geospatial data and metadata.
  • Designs, develops, and populates geodatabases. Designs and optimizes spatial queries.
  • Consults and advises faculty and other colleagues on GIS practices and assists with GIS-related teaching and research projects.
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades GIS server software and databases and all other GIS software in the DSL (5%)QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Thorough knowledge of project management of digital humanities websites and research.
    • Thorough knowledge of GIS, both server- and client-based, preferably historical GIS.
    • Thorough knowledge of the applications and uses of GIS in the humanities and social sciences.
    • Thorough knowledge of ArcGIS.
    • Thorough knowledge of PostgreSQL/PostGIS or similar geodatabases.
    • Thorough knowledge of GeoJSON.
    • General knowledge of web applications, particularly online mapping tools (e.g., Leaflet, Carto).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly communicating with non-technical individuals and groups.
    • Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and collaborate with staff combined with a commitment to staff development.
    • Understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in interactions with coworkers and contacts.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
      • Master's degree in Geography, GIS, Library and Information Science, or relevant field.
      • Five years of experience developing digital humanities and/or spatial humanities projects.
      • Five years of experience in GIS
      • Five years of experience in project management.WORK HOURS:
        • Full-time, exempt position
        • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./weekSALARY STRUCTURE:
