Overview
The VP, Medical Affairs is accountable for clinical performance improvement, including promoting clinical appropriateness, reducing unwarranted clinical variation, managing clinical resources and outcomes, overseeing hospitalists, and ensuring patient safety and quality activities at the hospital. Additional responsibilities include ensuring that the Hospital's Performance Improvement, Quality, and Utilization Management plans meet DNV Accreditation and other regulatory standards. The role also involves managing Medical Staff functions such as credentialing, integrating quality and cost data through data-driven initiatives, and ensuring appropriate responses and follow-up by physician departments and committees, in line with Medical Staff Governance policies. The VP supports positive interdisciplinary communication between the Hospital, Medical Staff, and Sentara Healthcare's Office of the Chief Physician Executive, coordinating with other hospital VPMAs for system-wide consistency. The role includes providing leadership and supervision for assigned operating units.
Sentara Leigh Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 274-bed acute care facility established in 1903 and relocated in 1977. The hospital underwent renovations in 2016, including new patient towers, an atrium, and a multi-story parking garage. It features a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital offering comprehensive orthopedic care, is a recognized Primary Stroke Center, Magnet designated for nursing excellence, and specializes in orthopedic and spine care, cardiology, maternity, and general surgery. The hospital also hosts the region's only 24-hour hyperbaric oxygen program, which accelerates healing for various conditions including carbon monoxide poisoning, chronic wounds, infections, chemical exposures, and scuba accidents.

  • Medical Doctor

    Certification/Licensure

    • Board certification in specialty required at the time of hire; ongoing recertification preferred.

      Experience

      • At least 5 years of clinical practice experience required.
      • 5 years of leadership experience preferred.
