* VideosVideos* DutiesHelpDutiesSummaryPOSITION: REGISTERED NURSE (DIALYSIS CLINICAL COORDINATOR)Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nurse (Dialysis Clinical Coordinator) (Unit 2H) is administratively responsible and accountable to the Nurse Manager, Dialysis through the Chief Nurse for Acute Medicine Nursing. This RN position is critical to meet the projected Outpatient and Inpatient workload demands of the Nursing Relationship-Based Care model for the Dialysis Department within the Central Virginia VA Health Care System located at the Richmond, Virginia VA Medical Center Facility.The RN is essential in coordination of the increased frequency of patient observation, safe mobilization, or other treatments, for the Dialysis Clinic Care. Clinical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:* Manage the overall patient flow and clinical activity within the Dialysis Unit.* Collaborate with the Quality Nurse and Charge Nurse to plan, organize, lead, implement, and evaluate the quality of nursing care on all patients in the Dialysis Unit.* Analyze problems in the delivery of patient care, develop corrective actions to expedite care. Assure optimum utilization of available resources and maintain a climate conducive to high quality patient care and employee's/patient satisfaction.* Maintain complete oversight of scope reprocessing to include but not limited to: competencies, SOP's, reading manuals, attends OIG, Joint Commission, VISN survey's, attends RME meetings regularly.* Manage Day-to-Day operations, reporting incidents, requesting leave, issues needing immediate resolution from chain of command in the absence of Nurse Manager.* Direct the activities of the dialysis department in collaboration with staff and ancillary staff to coordinate patient flow and throughput throughout VA healthcare system.* Initiate quality improvement activities resulting in improved outcomes and evaluates practice of self and others using professional standards, relevant statuses, and regulations, acting to improve identified deficiencies.Work Schedule: The Dialysis Suite is currently open 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The Clinical Coordinator tour of duty is Monday-Friday, 7:30am to 4:00 pm with late days assigned for coverage of clinical activities. Candidates must be available for call back to provide emergency treatments. The candidate must be willing to rotate tours of duty as required. Changes in these hours of operation will be based on patient care needs. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.* Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.Preferred Experience: At least (5) five years of Dialysis ExperienceGrade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:* Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.* Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.* Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.* Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.* Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.Physical Requirements: Includes lifting, prolonged standing, frequent bending, and stooping, walking, reaching, and repetitive motion. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing, keyboarding, reading, and logical thinking.BLS/ACLS Requirements: Current certification in BLS is required for all staff providing direct patient care, and police. Additionally, current ACLS is required for patient care staff that work in specified or high risk areas (SICU/ICU/CCU/MICU/PACU/ED/and all procedure suites using moderate sedation, etc.). If you are selected for a position which requires BLS/ACLS certification, you will be required to have proof of certification prior to being boarded for appointment with VA. If selected, obtain such certification in order to avoid any delays in the hiring process.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).
