Job Description:
If you are an eye doctor who: loves working with children, wants
a family-friendly schedule, and wants to make a tremendous
difference in your community, the Conexus Mobile Clinic may be
perfect for you! In the 2021-2022 school year Conexus served more
than 5,500 Central Virginia students through the mobile clinic.
Most of the students we serve would never have an eye exam without
the mobile clinic, and many who get glasses are seeing clearly for
the first time ever! Requests for the program continue to grow
quickly, and we are currently looking to contract with eye doctors
to help us meet the growing need in our community and our schools.
This is a contracted position that pays $500 per day and the
potential for a sign-on bonus. Please consider working with us to
brighten the future for the students we serve and help remove poor
vision as a barrier to their success. Contracted doctors may choose
a mix of any available or preferred days from one to five days per
week. We offer the flexibility to help you meet your professional
goals! No nights No weekends No holidays No retail/upselling No
on-call No electronic medical records No office management All
school holidays off; two weeks at Christmas; a week of spring
break; and no summers Clientele-pre-screened kindergarten through
12th grade students in Richmond, Chesterfield (Title I), and
Petersburg schools Hours in general are in line with a regular
school day but will vary based on the start time of the school
being served on any given day. The average workday is roughly six
to seven hours; clinic operation typically starts 30 minutes after
the start of the school day and ends about 30 minutes before the
end of the school day. Eye exams are provided by a licensed
optometrist in one of our inside vision lanes or on the Conexus
mobile vision van, a fully converted Mercedes Sprinter. Each clinic
is staffed daily with an optometrist, a Virginia licensed optician,
and often an additional technician. Conexus is a private,
non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a mission to remove poor
vision as a barrier to learning. Conexus works to achieve this
mission primarily by providing high-quality, technology-based
vision screenings for school aged children and then offering the
follow-up services of a mobile vision clinic for referred students
right at their own school. This service is provided in areas with
high economic need for students who will likely not receive vision
care through traditional methods of service. The clinic is
currently serving central Virginia's students in the cities of
Richmond and Petersburg and the Title 1 schools in Chesterfield
County. In 2019 Conexus began operation of a school based mobile
vision clinic to provide onsite eye exams and glasses to some of
the most economically and academically challenged students in the
Richmond region. In consultation with the Department of Medical
Assistance Services (DMAS) Conexus learned accessibility to care
was a significant challenge and barrier to service for thousands of
Medicaid enrolled children in the Richmond region. Conexus'
technology-based vision screenings were identifying even more than
the national average of 25% of students in these schools who
required follow-up vision care, yet DMAS reports were indicating
only about 5% were getting the care they needed. Bringing vision
care into the schools was a solution worth trying. Services of the
mobile vision clinic are overseen by the Conexus Council for
Pediatric Vision, comprised of optometrists and ophthalmologists to
ensure best practice standards. Employment Type: Contract
