We have an exciting opportunity for a Scrum Master within our Toxicology Business Unit located in Richmond, VA. In this role you will help shape the future of our Agile and Scrum efforts. BUSINESS UNIT At our Richmond location, we build products and processes that enable companies to conduct employment related screenings. Our software is used in over 3000 healthcare clinics and at thousands of companies throughout the country to help keep people safe at work. POSITION The Scrum Master II is a permanent member of a Scrum Team. This is a key role serving the Scrum Team in resolving impediments and managing the Scrum process, as well as coaching the team to high performance. The role is responsible for performing a wide range of duties training, facilitating, mentoring, coaching and optimizing the environment for Team performance. The Scrum Master exemplifies the scrum values of focus, courage, openness, commitment, and respect and encourages growth and develops meaningful relationships and trust to help the Scrum Team adhere to Agile Principles. Servant-Leadership, organizational, and motivational strengths are essential. As an important member of an Agile environment, the Scrum Master II is expected to cultivate, grow, and maintain core principals including, but not limited to, continuous improvement, self-organization, adaptive planning, and value driven development, using methodologies and frameworks such as LEAN, SCRUM, and KANBAN. Additionally, the Scrum Master II will possess a growth-mindset, be team-oriented, have strong interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to deal with ambiguity; applicants must demonstrate an aptitude for team communication and collaboration. RESPONSIBILITIES * Providing support to the Scrum Team by practicing servant leadership and embodying Agile values * Training and coaching the Scrum Team on upholding Scrum practices and values * Promoting and coaching team self-organization, facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work * Removing impediments for the Scrum Team; shielding the Team from outside distractions and interference * Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or judgement, with an emphasis on problem solving * Facilitating Scrum ceremonies * Facilitating discussion, cooperation, decision making, and conflict resolution * Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information * Support and educate the Product Owner, especially with respect to refining and managing the product backlog * Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity, and innovation * Assess the Scrum Maturity of the team and setting stretch goals * Participate in and/or lead Scrum adoption practices across the organization and any related Community of Practice. To be successful, a Scrum Master should have the following knowledge * How to promote being Agile over doing Agile * How to develop effective working relationships within the Scrum Team, between Teams, and with business partners * How to develop high performing teams * Strong situational awareness, coupled with facilitation, team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills * Advanced understanding of Scrum principles, rules and practices is required * Understanding of backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, task definition, definition of ready, definition of done, acceptance criteria * The ability to distinguish between what "is Scrum" what is "not Scrum" * Knowledge of other frameworks used in the Agile space: XP, Kanban, SAFe, etc. * Knowledge and/or experience with Agile techniques: User Stories, Acceptance Criteria, Test-driven Development, Continuous Integration, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games is required * Friendly, effective communication skills, both oral and written * Ability to work in a dynamic environment * How to support Portfolio and Program Management and align with organizational goals * Working knowledge of Task Management/Issue Tracking software (such as JIRA, TFS, Rally), Windows operating systems, and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Work, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc. Requirements To be considered an applicant for this position you must show how you meet the basic qualifications of the job in a resume or document you upload, or by completing the work experience and education application fields.
