Cisco Systems Engineer - Full Time Remote

Job Description:

NO C2C or Third PartiesThe Systems Engineer position will be participating in the upgrade of enterprise network hardware and system software for a local energy organization throughout the eastern US. Responsibilities The Systems Engineer should be well versed in the below technologies:

  • Remote configuration of networking equipment via Cisco DNA Center and/or CLI
  • Coordination and logistics related to the shipment of equipment from staging warehouse to Gas distribution site
  • Works with on-site technician, if required, to advise on racking, power, and remote connectivity to console ports. Configuration of network equipment delivered on-site, if required
  • Open and documents change orders ahead of scheduled implementation dates as part of the change management process
  • Pre-implementation activities with WAN service provider to ensure operational readiness
  • Activation of WAN services with carriers, as well as local area network test and turn up actions
  • Systems Engineer will also follow local energy company's service assurance process to be certain provided services and upgrades meet customer expectations
  • Assists with operational troubleshooting of internetwork connectivity and wireless issues
  • Utilizes change management and ticketing systems, documents status updates and problem resolutions
  • Requires the employee to be in an on-call support rotation with the other team members
  • Enterprise Cisco Catalyst switching platform with IOS XE experience
  • Enterprise Cisco ASR/ISR routing experience
  • Juniper (JUNOS) enterprise routing and switching experience a plus, but not required
  • Experience working in activation and operational testing scenarios with large Service Providers
  • Strong understanding of packet capture analysis and use of networking monitoring and management tools
  • Any other general IT duties as requiredDesired Skills
    • Must have experience with configuring and troubleshooting Cisco enterprise routers and multi-layer switches
    • Understanding of network protocols, including EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, QOS, STP, DHCP, SNMP, TCP, UDP
    • Must have experience with network break/fix of layer 2 and 3 environments
    • Network related industry certifications a plus (CCNA or greater)
    • Ability to follow documented processes, procedures and policies
    • Possess a high level of attention to detail and documentation skills are required
    • Exceptional verbal, written and phone skills
    • Remote work and onsite work in Richmond Area
