The Office of Background Investigations (OBI) has an exciting
opportunity available for an Administrative Assistant Senior.
OBI currently houses two programs consisting of criminal
background checks and child protective services central registry
This position is responsible for the processing of Child
Protective Services Central Registry Search requests. Duties
includes but is not limited to performing data entry, conducting
research and making determinations based on central registry search
findings; responding to inquiries of a sensitive nature from
individual applicants, child care facilities, schools, local social
services, childrens residential facilities and others as requested;
providing fiscal accountability for funds received for all central
registry search requests; and ensuring compliance with Child
Protective Services guidance and procedures as well as with the
Code of Virginia.

- Skill in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and
problem-solving of confidential information to make determinations
- Skill in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive
- Skill in data entry and typing in a high volume customer
- Skill in working effectively and communicating verbally and in
writing with a diverse population of internal and external
- Skill in the use of word processing, computer applications such
as MS Office, Google Suite and with data base management/automated
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies,
guidance and/or procedures to ensure compliance.
- Ability to work independently: plan, organize, and handle
multiple priorities in a timely and accurate manner.
- High School diploma or G.E.D. or the equivalent level of
professional related experience.
- Experience conducting background investigations or working in a
criminal justice setting.
- Knowledge of the legal system including criminal justice
agencies and court structure.
- Knowledge of OASIS system.
- Paralegal certificate or an related Associates degree.
Selected candidate(s) must successfully pass a fingerprint-based
criminal history background check.
Selected candidates(s) will be assigned to an emergency role upon
hire and is expected to perform in that capacity as needed.
