Summary and QualificationsJOB SUMMARY: Provides care to patients in
cardiac or respiratory failure receiving Extracorporeal Membrane
Oxygenation (ECMO). Includes monitoring and maintaining ECMO
patients and rapid response for ECMO cannulation. Responsible for
all aspects of monitoring and troubleshooting the ECMO circuit and
related equipment during the treatment period.SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Maintains CPR certificate and license
requirements.2. Maintains NBRC credentials for Certified or
Registered Respiratory Therapist3. Fulfills staff meeting,
in-service, competency and on-going education requirements.4.
Monitors, operates, and adjusts ECMO circuits and associated
components to maintain patient-specific parameters.5. Continually
assesses and evaluates ECMO circuit and notifies the physician of
concerns/complications.6. Competent in troubleshooting skills
within circuit.7. Confidently differentiate physiology for VV and
VA ECMO indications.8. Assists in staff training and
competencies.9. Adheres to established hospital policies and
procedures related to ECMO management.10. Acts as a resource to the
interdisciplinary team for the safe management of the ECMO
circuit.11. Maintains scheduled pre- and post-oxygenator gases and
other necessary laboratory monitoring.12. Completes required shift
documentation regarding patient progress.13. Assumes responsibility
for necessary bi-annual competencies, trainings, and education per
ELSO guidelines.14. Works in conjunction with the bedside nurse to
ensure that the patient on ECMO has adequate perfusion, corrects
for proper acid/base balance and hemodynamic stability within
ordered parameters, and maintains other parameters as ordered by
the ECMO service. 15. Assists the ECMO Medical Director and
department management in the collection/review of quality
improvement initiatives, using internal and external data to
benchmark with the goal of establishing best practice.

What qualifications you will need:EDUCATION: Required: High School
Graduate and Graduate Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
Preferred: High School Graduate and Graduate Registered Respiratory
Therapist (RRT)EXPERIENCE: Required: Three years critical care
experience. Preferred: Previous ECMO Specialist training and
experience.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Required: Virginia Licensed
Respiratory Care Practitioner Maintain NBRC credentials for
Certified or Registered Respiratory TherapistAmerican Heart
Association OR American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) American
Heart Association OR American Red Cross Advanced Life Support
(ACLS) Preferred: Registry-eligible Respiratory Therapist
Registered Respiratory Therapist NBRC Adult Critical Care
