Senior Digital Content Specialist - 501819SUMMARY: This position
is responsible for the day-to-day execution of ongoing strategic
communications and generating stories for use across multiple
communications channels, and, in particular, the division's digital
news site and email digest of news and information about the
University of Richmond. Reporting to the managing editor, the
position combines digital savvy with expertise in content creation,
writing, and integration to drive strong engagement with key
audiences.RESPONSIBILITIES: Storytelling
- Write weekly stories in line with defined guardrails and
goals
- Support content plan and maintain content calendar
- Adhere to fact-checking protocols
- Develop story ideas that fit editorial guidelines
- Make initial edits on article submissions from freelance
writers
- Write headlines and subheads
- Produce information graphic stories
- Collaborate with colleagues who produce feature stories, art,
and photography, for a weekly news digest that can also serve other
communications platforms, including social media, the web, and
other publications
- Partner with offices across the University to stay informed of
emerging stories that can be leveraged across University
Communications channels
- Build and send weekly email digest
- Post stories to the digital storytelling siteContent
Integration and Support
- Identify and secure visual content to accompany written
pieces
- Identify content that is linked to and aligns with key
strategic university initiatives and institutional priorities
- Provide editorial/content support to the ongoing web, social
media, and other digital content efforts of the team
- Collaborate closely with digital and editorial teams to
maintain a cohesive vision for aligning and cross-promoting content
across key university content channelsMetrics
- Meet yearly goals for UR Now by analyzing and acting on the
appropriate data/metrics, insights, and best practices
- Report metrics on weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly
basis
- Use metric data to inform storytelling and increase reader
engagement and retentionQUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to write articles that are well structured, clear,
error-free, and ready for publishing
- Excellent writing, editing, grammar, and proofreading
skills
- Ability to write about complex topics in an understandable way
for a general audience
- Ability to manage multiple writing assignments and deliver them
in a short time frame consistently
- Strong storytelling skills

- Four-year college degree in English, marketing, communications,
journalism, or related field is required
- A minimum of five years of experience in writing, editing, web
content, marketing communications, integrated content delivery,
and/or journalismWORK HOURS:
- Full-time, exempt position
- Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75
hrs./week
- Occasional evening or weekend workSALARY STRUCTURE: Pay Grade 7
(Hiring Range $54,413.00 to $72,093.00 annually)
