The Department of General Services, Division of Real Estate &
Facilities Management (DREFM), Bureau of Facilities Management
(BFM) is a customer-focused organization whose primary function is
to provide a quality environment for the approximately 75 state
agencies that occupy the facilities overseen by DGS. BFM provides
its customers effective and timely operational, maintenance, and
repair services. BFM is responsible for over 40 buildings and
operates and maintains about 6.45 million square feet of buildings
and grounds at the seat of government to include the Governor's
Mansion, the Virginia Capitol and Capitol Square. BFM strives to
ensure tenants enjoy a clean, safe, efficient, and comfortable
environment in and around the buildings it manages.
We are recruiting for a Grounds Worker to provide professional
level grounds maintenance for the State Capitol Complex.
Responsibilities include pruning, mowing, pesticide and fertilizer
applications, tree, shrub, bedding plant, rose and bulb crop care;
planting trees, shrubs and flowers; using and maintaining landscape
and grounds equipment; and snow and ice removal.

The candidate must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., reach
overhead, bend, kneel, and crouch.
The selected candidate must possess the following:
Prior landscaping experience.
Working knowledge of various plants and turf, related diseases, and
Working knowledge and experience in the mechanical operation of
various equipment used in grounds management, including mowing,
landscaping, gardening equipment, and power tools.
Good knowledge of safety rules/regulations and accident-prevention
Skill in safe operation and preventative maintenance of assigned
equipment under all types of weather conditions.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to create and maintain records; ability to work
independently and with a team environment; ability to shovel snow
and assist with ice removal.
This position is considered to be designated emergency personnel
and must be available to work during office closings in event of
weather emergencies to include ability to shovel snow and ice.
HS diploma or equivalent preferred.
Virginia Certified Commercial/Registered Pesticide Technician
Applicator is desired.
Virginia Certified Fertilizer Applicator is desired.
