Job Description:
Summary This position is located in the Maintenance Division of
the White House and President's Park. This position reports
directly to the Park Manager and serves as Branch Chief of Grounds
and Facility Maintenance as well as Staff Advisor on matters
related to grounds and facility management. The geographic areas of
responsibility include Lafayette Park, the Ellipse, 1st Division
Memorial, 2nd Division Memorial, Sherman Park and Pennsylvania
Avenue/Jackson Place/Madison Place area. Responsibilities The major
job duties of the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor position include,
but are not limited to, the following: Serves as the principal
advisor and consultant for all aspects of grounds operations,
sanitation, custodial operations, building and facility maintenance
and recycling programs. Responsible for establishing priorities and
program details and determining the distribution of work between
subordinate supervisors. Prepares division budget and manages
procurement for service contracts and supplies. Develops and
reviews specifications for special projects such as renovation of
historic structures, fountain and pool maintenance, specialized
road and walkway projects, plumbing, heating and air conditioning
installations and grounds and landscape projects. Reviews and
develops site plans and coordinates infrastructure needs for
recurring and one-time special events and other security needs.

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable
adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement
for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct
Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to
operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your
official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be
required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving
Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or
submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own
expense, all certified driving records from all States that
disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past,
possessed by you.]. You will be required to wear a uniform and
comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform
allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call,
evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a
new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be
required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be
required to travel overnight away from home up to 4 nights per
month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel
purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete
training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel
and/or purchase authority. You will be required to complete a
Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual
basis. This position is considered Emergency/Essential Personnel.
Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16
years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded
a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b)
Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have
received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their
preference for employment rather than continuing their education;
or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work
only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the
school year under a formal student employment program.

sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related

(theoretical, precise, artistic) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly,
Installation, Repair, etc. Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To
Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials If your

positions. Additional Information This announcement may be used to
fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90

Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. Travel,
transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All
travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with
reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility
of the selected employee. This position is not eligible for remote
work. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of
this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be
allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Physical Demands:
Lifting objects weighing 50 pounds or more may be required, and
physical effort and coordination are required in operating brake,
clutch, steering, shift, and accelerator controls on equipment. The
position may require standing, stooping, walking and sitting.
Incumbent will climb ladders and scaffolding to inspect work. The
position requires driving various vehicles and equipment over rough
and uneven terrain. The position requires periods of sedentary
activity at a computer work station. Working Conditions: Must be
able to work both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather
(hot, humid summers - snowy/icy winters) situations. Work around
loud noises and vibration is often necessary. This includes
exposure to dust, dirt, oils, paints, and various cleaning agents.
Employee is required to wear NPS uniform and to comply with
prescribed uniform standards. Employee is subject to holiday,
weekend, and overtime work. This position is designated as an
emergency essential employee. Documentation for the Land Management
Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL
SF-50s and performance information for each period of
temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance
documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the
positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not
complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of
performance for each period of service. The statement must specify
the dates for each employment period and your level of performance
(dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
