Job Description:
Ready to shape the future of science and global health? ATCC, a
leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization,
is seeking a Scientist, Biomedical Genomics to work hybrid in
Gaithersburg, MD. The Scientist for Biomedical Genomics is
responsible for contributing to the implementation and
computational analysis of 'omics data and next-generation
sequencing (NGS) projects. This role requires expertise in
analyzing and interpreting large, complex datasets, alongside an
understanding of genetic influences on health and disease, bridging
data science and medicine. The Scientist will design, develop, and
maintain a robust code base for the analysis of RNA-seq,
transcriptomics, whole exome sequencing (WES), and whole genome
sequencing (WGS) data—adopting or developing cutting-edge
methodologies and pipelines as needed. Proficiency with diverse
bioinformatics tools is essential to process, analyze, and
interpret the vast volumes of genomics data generated. They will
collaborate with interdepartmental cross-functional teams on new
product development, services, or informatics projects, focusing on
the design, development, and maintenance of code bases for RNA-seq,
transcriptomics, WES, and WGS data analysis. The Scientist for

biologists and peers for technologies and collaborative projects.
The Scientist will use professional concepts and organizational
policy and procedure to independently solve complex problems in
imaginative and practical ways, utilizing various tools to process,
analyze, and interpret high volumes of genomics data. Join ATCC and

Scientific Research & Innovation Design and conduct experimental
studies to support scientific discovery. Initiate, direct, and
execute research and development strategies. Evaluate feasibility
of scientific concepts for problem-solving and innovation. Maintain
scientific integrity and stay informed on advancements. Laboratory
Operations & Data Management Plan and execute lab research,
troubleshoot technical issues, and manage DNA/RNA sequence
databases. Record, analyze, and interpret study data. Translate
experimental protocols into SOPs and analytical work plans.
Communication, Collaboration & Strategic Support Develop research
documentation including reports, presentations, and publications.
Disseminate findings to internal and external audiences. Support
grant/contract proposals and internal R&D projects. Facilitate
technology transfer across business units. Qualifications PhD in
Scientific Discipline or Engineering Equivalent and 2-5 years'
experience or equivalent experience. Demonstrated expertise using
command line to interact with Windows and Linux operating systems,
including but not limited to Command Prompt, Powershell, Bash, or
Zsh. Demonstrated experience with scripting languages, including
but not limited to: Python, R, Perl, Ruby, Java. Demonstrated
experience with biomedical genomics data science. Familiarity with
cloud computing platforms like AWS or Google Cloud for
bioinformatics applications. Ability to create various types of
visualizations, including line plots, bar charts, histograms,
scatter plots, and heat maps, to represent data trends,
distributions, and correlations. Strong understanding of
next-generation sequencing (NGS). A track record of understanding
bioinformatics applications, libraries and custom scripts
preferred. Familiarity with Linux high-performance computing
environments preferred. Experience with machine learning techniques
and their application to biological data preferred. Benefits The
expected salary range for this position is $105,000 to $115,000
annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on
experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and
alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role
may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including
